Any company providing a premium rate service needs to obey PhonepayPlus' rules. For example, pricing must be crystal clear, advertising must be honest and
promotions must be appropriate. If the rules are broken then PhonepayPlus will investigate the company providing the service and PhonepayPlus has the power
to cut off services, bar individuals from operating and fine companies up to £250,000.

Often you will see a number on your bill and not remember what is was or why you called it. PhonepayPlus keeps records of all the premium rate numbers that
consumers have asked questions about so others can see the information too.
Type in a premium rate number or mobile shortcode into the number checker and it will tell you the name of the service and the name, telephone number and
address of the company running the service.

Receiving text messages you don't want?
If you receive a text message and don't know who it's from, don't delete it. Call your mobile company to see if they can give you any information on the sender and whether it cost you anything to receive it.
If you have been charged to receive the message, have a think about whether you signed up for anything using your mobile phone (for example, mobile games or ringtones).
- If you do remember signing up but no longer want to receive the service or any promotional texts from the company, reply to the message with the words STOP ALL.
- If you don't remember signing up and think you have been wrongly charged, then get in touch with PhonepayPlus.
