What we do

PhonepayPlus is the organisation (previously known as ICSTIS) that regulates phone-paid (premium rate) services in the UK. We are a not-for-profit regulator and it is our job is to make sure people can trust phone-paid services, so everyone can use them without worry.

We do this by pre-empting, preventing and protecting

• We pre-empt problems by researching the market, imposing sensible rules and developing safeguards in association with the industry
• We prevent harm by offering advice to businesses to make sure they obey the rules, and by educating users, especially young people, so they can make informed choices and protect themselves from loss or harm
• We protect users from scams and irresponsible behaviour by investigating problems and taking timely and effective action to stop harm. Where appropriate, we use punitive sanctions, like fines, to deter other companies
